A Sample Program

Creating Our Future: a sample program

Program Objectives:

The Creating Our Future program is an action-packed two-day experience designed to create change within an organization. It has a tremendously positive impact on any organization that is undergoing significant transformation to ensure its future success. Participants gain a clear understanding of the need for both organizational and personal change, and their pro-active support in making the transition is enlisted. Designed for people at all levels of the organization, Creating Our Future provides participants with a better understanding of the personal skills that are key to transformation.

What does the program address?

  • organizational life cycles and the relative position of the organization within the cycle
  • change, the need for change, and the behaviours related to change
  • the role personal behaviours play in determining the success or failure of the team, work unit, and the organization
  • senior management's vision and / or direction
  • taking personal ownership for the future success of the organization, and the motivation to take action
  • the role of leadership, and how it differs from traditional management
  • a personal action plan leading to more effective use of change skills

Growth Curve Model

The specific skill areas addressed during the program include:

  • leadership
  • team building
  • customer focus
  • trust

  • communications
  • creating change
  • risk taking
  • innovation

Program Methodology
Activity-based learning The skill awareness and skill building portions of the program are accomplished using 'experiential' learning techniques. Through participation in non-work related activities, participants observe how people typically behave and interact with each other. Each activity is designed to enable discovery of more effective forms of behaviour. The learning is reinforced through expertly facilitated discussions following each activity, and participants are then given an opportunity to relate the learning to them selves and to their work environment.

Video material, brief lectures, and models are also used to reinforce the activity-based learning. Participants are also guided through the development of a personal action plan. This ensures that the skills learned are actually implemented and practised back in the workplace.

The program's effectiveness may be enhanced through the involvement of a senior manager in the organization. With the coaching and guidance of the facilitator, the executive provides participants with a high level perspective on the need for change and senior management's expectations of the participants. A key element of the program is an open and candid executive dialogue with the participants.

The format of the entire program models the skills being addressed and therefore provides an excellent opportunity for participants to observe and practice these skills.
